Mac Miller Announces New Album "Swimming"

By Andreas Fanos on July 16, 2018

Fresh off his split from pop star Ariana Grande, Mac Miller is ready to drop his latest album “Swimming” due out on August 3. Fans and others alike had to believe something was brewing as weeks earlier the artist dropped three singles recently after the split. The three singles were “Buttons,” “Programs,” and “Small Worlds,” with the last song being on the upcoming album. The project is set for a release date in August, right towards the final stage of summer.

The release of the album is in the same month that ex Ariana Grande is set to drop her upcoming album “Sweetener.” It is surely ironic that they are both dropping albums in the same month.

The rapper is coming off his most recent album “The Divine Feminine,” which was about love and the universe, however, his upcoming album seems focused on getting himself back on track and rapping about lost love, mistakes, and finding a comfort zone. His latest single that was released days earlier labeled “Self Care” raps about his DUI arrest and fixing himself from the ground up. Variety reports that in the music video Mac carves the message “Memento mori,” which means “remember you have to die” in Latin.

It will be interesting to see what Mac has in store on his album “Swimming” as the artist has gone through different stages in his career blossoming as an artist as early in his career as a rapper, but transitioning to rapping over jazzy beats, trap production, and melodic singing on his latest album “The Divine Feminine.” A lot of people doubted what he could bring to the table early in his career, but he proved critics and fans alike with his nice signature flow, rhymes, religious metaphors, and versatile voice, along with the ability to produce music. At first, he was seen as a frat rapper catered to college kids with corny jokes and annoying metaphors, but he has proved he was a lot more than just that.

It seems that “Swimming” will be another awakening and walk of rehabilitation for Mac, and one that the rapper is used to. “GO:OD AM” saw the rapper awakening through all the drug issues and basking in a different light and his upcoming album seems to hold the same kind of theme. Fans and college students will be ready to listen to the latest batch of music from the rapper on August 3. I sure know I will be.
